Veteran-owned · San Diego, CA

A veteran-owned IT company in San Diego that builds systems you actually own.

Builtstead is owned and operated by a Marine Corps veteran with a cybersecurity degree. We replace the software small businesses rent with open-source systems deployed on a server in your name, then manage the hosting, patching, backups, and security for one flat monthly fee. No per-user pricing, no lock-in, no manufactured urgency.

Why it matters

"Veteran-owned" should mean something you can check.

Plenty of companies put a flag on the website. Here is what it means at Builtstead: the owner, Jarome Garcia, is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran (Gunnery Sergeant) with a B.S. in Cybersecurity Technology and a background in networking and security. He builds and manages every client system personally.

The military habits show up in the work, not the marketing. Every system has a written procedure with a rollback plan. Patching happens in a scheduled window, the first Sunday of every month. Backups are tested quarterly, not assumed. Response times are in the contract, and they're response times we can meet, not resolution times we can't promise.

Verifiable, not decorative

  • U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Gunnery Sergeant
  • B.S. Cybersecurity Technology; graduate coursework in cybersecurity governance
  • California LLC, San Diego County, owner-operated

Every client gets a continuity plan, in writing.

Planned absences happen in any owner-operated business. Our service agreement spells out how they're handled: advance notice, the monthly patch window and a backup check completed beforehand, and a designated backup engineer with the access needed to respond to incidents while the owner is away. Clients hear about it early and plainly. Handled openly, it's a strength of the model, not a weakness.

Three commitments most IT companies won't put in writing.

These are in the client agreement, not just on this page.

01

You own it, and you can leave.

Server, domain, and accounts are in your name. If you end the relationship, we hand over all administrator credentials and documentation within seven days, and the system keeps running. Export help is included. A provider that has to hold your data hostage to keep you isn't worth keeping.

02

No per-seat pricing, ever.

Per-user billing is the problem we exist to remove, so no plan counts users. Essentials, Growth, and Pro differ in service depth: apps managed, change hours, review cadence, compliance upkeep. Hire two people, your bill doesn't change.

03

No false urgency.

No countdown timers, no "only two spots left." A veteran-owned brand only works if every claim holds up. You'll get a written recommendation after the audit, and the price is the price whether you sign this week or next quarter.

Questions people ask

Straight answers before you book.

If yours isn't here, ask. You'll get a written reply, not a sales call.

Ask a question
Do you offer a veteran or military discount?

We don't discount on affiliation, and we don't inflate prices to discount them later. Pricing is published, flat, and the same for everyone. What veteran-owned buys you is a straight answer and a system you own.

Do you work outside San Diego?

Yes. Delivery is fully remote, so the service works anywhere in the U.S. Most clients are in San Diego County because that's where the referrals come from, and we're happy to meet in person locally.

Do you do HIPAA work?

Not yet. Medical and dental practices need a business associate agreement and policies we haven't finished building, and we won't take that work until they're in place. We'll say so on the first call rather than find out later.
